View Full Version : Firefox information and help needed puleeze
Hi Bob Affifi.
I saw your suggestion to use Firefox and promptly found it, downloaded, it, etc. Now I'm a bit less sure of myself and I am wondering if you can help me. I've been using the SBC Yahoo Browser. When I loaded up Firefox, it gave me the option to import my bookmarks from Internet Explorer, but ooops, that's not where my bookmarks seem to be (duh....). So, I'm wondering, if you can give me a better understanding of the relationship between the 3 vehicles. Somehow I thought the SBC tool used Internet Explorer as a base, but now I'm thinking it is totally separate? Do I now have three separate browsers? Do you think I can import my bookmarks from the SBC browser?
Is this way too much to ask? If so just smack me and send me back to trying to figger it out myself....

I'm not familiar with the SBC/Yahoo! browser, sorry. However, there should be a "Export Bookmarks" (or something like that), that you can use to save your bookmarks to your desktop (typically called bookmarks.html). You can then import this file into Firefox.

Go ahead and run the Firefox/Explorer import function and when done, go to Firefox, click Bookmarks and see if all your favorites are in there...
If so, there's no further steps required.
Cheers!

Thanks Bob and Thanks Suzanne.
First to Suzanne: I did that, and it didn't work, which is why I was confused in the first place.
Next to Bob: I think you have probably hit the nail on the head. I assume I have to export them first and then import them. I will try that next. Many
Thanks to you both for answering.

Great! Glad to hear it worked out. :-)
I'm assuming you're on a PC (not a Mac). If so, you may want to seriously consider NOT using IE or SBC/Yahoo! for your browsing (security, pop-ups, spyware, adware etc.). As I mentioned in an earlier post (https://www.waccobb.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1228), the computer at People's Music recently got so overrun with viruses and adware that it had to be completely reformatted to return it to something resembling a tool that we could use. The *policy* now is that we ONLY use FireFox and Web based email (Yahoo! (https://www.yahoo.com), Gmail (https://www.gmail.com), Fastmail (https://www.fastmail.fm/), etc.) on the computer - NO Outlook, NO Explorer.

Yes I'm on a PC, and lucky me, I've only used Yahoo mail because it does such a good job of filtering out the junk -- something I couldn't ever get Outlook to do. Do you use the Mozzilla email program Thunderbird too?
I also keep Spybot, Adaware and Yahoo AntiSpy on my desktop and run each of them regularly. I got one tiny bit of spyware on my computer a few months ago and it took all of those plus the help of a tech at SBC to get rid of the little bleeper.

I've been a long-time Yahoo! Mail user and early last year opted for their Mail Plus service ($20/yr.) which gives me a whopping 2Gigs of storage so I have no need to download as well as a bunch of other things. So far I've used about 8% of my capacity - and I get a TON of email!
As for using Mozilla and Thunderbird, the answer is yes - but mostly for archiving purposes.

The Winfixer (https://www.geekstogo.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=56177) and nail.exe (https://netrn.net/spywareblog/archives/2005/05/10/got-aurora-nailexe/) adware were all it took for me to push for a policy change for the computer use at People's Music. So far, it seems to be working.
