The best advice i can give you, based on many years of small-animal rescue, is to get tracking dogs on the job ASAP!
If there's no tracking dog service listed in the phone book, call the nearby Kennel Club chapters and veterinarians and find out who has dog friends trained in tracking. Get those noses out there working while the trail is still clear and not crossed over by other scents.

As caring pet owners we are always upset to learn a beloved family member has gone missing. But, I again suggest, as I have before, that "help" messages provide pertinent info so that all of us in the Wacco community might be of assistance. Be specific about the area where the dog was left, the date and exact time, and especially, whether the dog is tattoed or microchipped. Some of you have proposed an "amber alert" for pets. Well, microchipping is that amber alert.

That's what it's supposed to be; however, there's quite a gap between the ideal and the real here. My very beloved cat sister was, in effect, kidnapped despite having a microchip. Someone found her and wouldn't let her come home--in fact pulled down my flier every day in his neighborhood--and when he lied to the cops and said she wasn't there, they couldn't get a warrant to go in, find her and scan her microchip to confirm that she lived with me.
