Some sources of info for Judicial Candidates [Archive]

Judicial elections are important but as they are not partisan they are difficult to find information on the candidates records. Is a candidate pro choice? How did they decide various key cases? Along with doing a search for each candidate's name to find their bio and perhaps more information, here are some links that might help learn more.
One caveat however, The State Bar was recently charged for "ageism" in that it declined endorsement of a 70 year old candidate who they had previously endorced. The laundry on that is yet to come out of the wash.

Most people never vote on Judges. We have the opportunity on November 7 to vote out of office the right wing Republican Court of Appeals Justice who just decided that gays and lesbians should not be entitled to marry in California.
He wrote that even though the right to marry was a "fundamental right" under the constitution, prohibiting gays and lesbians from marrying was not discriminatory towards them, because they still have the right to marry people of the opposite sex; also that it is still OK for California law to discriminate against gays and lesbians. (Judge Tony Klein, appointed by Jerry Brown, wrote a brilliant dissent in this case.) This at a time when even the New Jersey supreme court voted unanimously that gays and lesbians have the right to marry. I guess California isn't up to even the level of New Jersey standards.

Name on Ballot: William McGuiness. We get to vote Yes or NO. If there are more NO votes than Yes votes, he is out of office. I am going to vote NO. (18% of Californians vote NO on every single judge and justice; a few more votes from us, and he will be on his way to retirement.)

Please vote NO on McGuiness.

Remember the right wing lobby got rid of three moderate Supreme Court Judges a few years back, just by getting people to vote no on the ballot. We can do the same with this ultra conservative Justice McGuiness
