We rushed out of our house while neighbors' homes burned.

My wife and I had to rush out of our house in 10 minutes as the fire approached last Sunday night. We are currently staying elsewhere until authorities say it's okay to return to our homes. Some of the homes that burned down to the ground in Santa Rosa did so about a half mile from our house. We thought this was the last time we were going to see our house standing.

We are staying at a family member's home in Marin until the fires are controlled enough to return to our house in Santa Rosa. Right now, authorities have our part of the neighborhood blocked off to the public, including homeowners like us who live there.

We are blessed not to lose our house when others who live close by have lost theirs. It's awesome not to have to go to a small, expensive, dingy and uncomfortable motel somewhere. We are staying in a very nice, large home in a good neighborhood, the same one Senator Boxer lived in when I was a kid. We have TV, cable, and internet. It's warm and we also have AC.

We are very fortunate while others are not. We appreciate this and hope for the best for everyone else. The best thing we can do as a society is to confront the problem of Climate Change. But the biggest obstacles are those who deny CC, led by the fascist clown in the White House.

What is a "good neighborhood"?

It's not that easy to identify a good neighborhood, since it's just a microcosm of the world. We may have fantasies of a "good neighborhood", but it's a community of humans and animals, who happen to live in proximity of each other. In times gone by, people interacted more with each other, and that was how we got to know more about likes and dislikes, strengths and weakness, assets and liabilities, along with distinct personalities.

Things are different now, and most of us barely know our neighbors, even though we do know some things about them, which brings forth our judgement, praise or condemnation. Labeling is a way of denying the mutuality of our humanity.

WaccoBB is like a neighborhood, and what we put forth here, creates our diverse community of which we like to claim is "conscious". Not an unpromising goal for a viral neighborhood community.

It would be great to hear from others what their idea of a "good neighborhood" is or would be.

I like the idea of "love your neighbor as yourself", but that's kinda far fetched.
