I totally commit to NEVER purchase anything that is sold on Facebook. I just don't have the time or energy to delete all the sponsored links. Eventually FB will consist of nothing but sponsored pages. FB is a perfect metaphor for what is happening to America, worshiping the dollar at the checkout counter of Capitalism, America's state religion, is destroying America, and destroying the environment, and corroding what little is left of America's soul.

I deleted my Facebook account years ago! Glad that cancelling Facebook is now finally becoming a thing. Better late than never.

I don't have control over other people's behavior but I do have control over my own. I also know that I am only one drop in the bucket of deleting facebook accounts, but it's my drop and it's my responsibility to do so.

Interesting to read the different experiences.
I have used FB for ~3 years without any ad problem. Its great for participation in groups , such as photography (my interest). I can see photos taken by people all over the world and pictures of birds I never knew existed. I recently have had ads from Democrat groups, but no big deal. Perhaps a knowledgable computer person could explain how some people's browsing history is used by FB
