President Trump fired off a series of tweets Friday that appeared to encourage citizens in states protesting strict coronavirus lockdown orders to “LIBERATE” themselves from their governors — specifically, Democratic governors in states that could be important in the presidential election.


Two minutes after Fox News aired a segment on a Minnesota protest against social distancing orders issued by Gov. Tim Walz, Trump hit the all-caps key and threw his support behind those angry about the restrictions.

The president then targeted two more states where protests had erupted on Thursday.

In Michigan, where more than 29,000 people have tested positive for the coronavirus, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has put in place strict stay-at-home orders. Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia, which has reported more than 7,400 cases, has done the same. Their orders were based on the federal guidelines that Trump himself issued in an effort to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Other states, including some with Republican governors, have enacted similar restrictions.


“When you see a political rally — that’s what it was yesterday — a political rally where people aren’t wearing masks and they’re in close quarters and they’re touching one another, you know that that’s precisely what makes this kind of disease drag out and expose more people,” Whitmer said in an interview with MSNBC.

Trump’s tweets targeting swing states with Democratic governors came the day after he unveiled new criteria (https://news.yahoo.com/trumps-guidelines-for-reopening-country-show-it-could-take-a-while-000542528.html) for the lifting of stay-at-home orders that he said “will allow governors to take a phased and deliberate approach to reopening their individual states.” During the course of the week, he has at different times claimed “total authority” to overrule governors on emergency measures and said he would defer to their decisions.

It's the same thing probably when you raise a child, they test you to see if they can get away with something, if they can they try a larger one. Trump has already made a comment of continuing on even after this next 4 years if he gets elected. I have no faith that the boundary of "he wouldn't be so stupid" exists. The way he lies and the way his followers ignore them!!

With the senate the attorney general and trump all one faction, there doesn't seem like anything but the military to stand in.
The Supreme Court could rule it's insurrection but it's the attorney general that would have to act.

Why aren't more people calling for charging him with inciting insurrection? So how do you make a case of that?

Any attorneys care to clear some air?

I believe that the American moral compass has been undermined for years - starting with the ongoing treatment of the indigenous people starting almost upon arrival, Ku Klux Klan lynchings, continuing into our own lifetimes (some of us) with the growth of the 'military-industrial complex' that Eisenhower warned against, the Kennedy and King murders, the Iran-Contra parade of lies, invasion and war in Afghanistan, Abu Ghraib horrors, 911, Supreme Court picks, fracking, and now, Drumph. We cynically have become too used to fear and greed guiding our leaders' decisions, and DT seems like the ultimate icon of a nation going further and further into darkness, even as individual Americans often display kindness and thoughtfulness.

In the effort to imagine some long term direction to move in.

The Foundation series by Isaac Asimov presented a scenario where a galactic empire was collapsing as a result of technology outpacing humanity's capacity to control it for the common good. In this projected collapse they configured a formula that would take shape through eras of time.

Being this isn't a galactic empire the time frame shouldn't have to be eras but what way to think now for collecting individuals towards surviving collapse and creating a seed that would grow, so we never have this kind of turmoil again?
