"In the end, electability was probably always just a proxy for sexism and internalized gender stereotypes that still grip the nation and even the Democratic party, despite the fact that some 60% of Democratic primary voters are women. Where Warren’s concerned, the most prescient poll of this election season may well have been the Ipsos poll (https://www.ipsos.com/sites/default/files/ct/news/documents/2019-06/daily-beast-gender-topline-2019-06-17-v2.pdf) back in July that found 74% of Democrats and Independents considered themselves comfortable with a female president, while only 33% of them similarly believed their neighbors would be as comfortable. In other words, I’m not sexist but my ingrained perceptions of humanity are and therefore the plausibility of a female presidency is questionable."

While I understand this... I will point out that Hillary Clinton actually won the popular vote in 2016.

And... that Amy Klobuchar kind of came from nowhere and did surprisingly well.

I'm not really sure Warrens failure was so much because she was a woman rather then that her persona failed to resonate with people. The caveat I have though is the cult of Sanders. Given two people with very similar ideals - the logical choice should be to go for the one with well detailed plans and a history of actually being able to get things done. And yet... the far left went for the angry old white man instead... I guess the irony is that far left is supposed to be "woke" and should have looked at both and make a rational choice. But instead they chose the "rockstar" rather then the rock....
