Anyone who knows me knows I hate asking people for money. It’s one of the worst parts about running for office.

But with our FEC fundraising deadline almost over that’s what I gotta do: I gotta ask you for money.

Because this deadline is a big one. Not only because we’ll report how much money we’ve raised and how many donations we’ve received, but we’ll immediately be putting those contributions to work winning this primary.

And because we don’t raise money at high-dollar fundraisers like most other campaigns, our job is to generate as many individual donations as we possibly can between now and tomorrow at midnight. So I am asking:
Can you make one more contribution to our campaign before our FEC fundraising deadline comes to an end tomorrow? I would not ask were it not so important to our fight.

As difficult as it is to ask people to contribute, I am very proud of the way this campaign raises money. You should be, too. But as much as I wish we could, we cannot stop now. Tomorrow’s deadline is important. So thank you for adding one more donation before it’s too late.
In solidarity,
Bernie Sanders

I can not, and will not, support Bernie Sanders under any circumstances.

First and foremost- as one of the longest serving members of Congress (29? years) he has accomplished nothing. He ranks at the absolute bottom of gaining co-sponsors/support for his bills. I think he has had 5? 6? bills passed in all those years. 2-3 about post offices in VT. 2-3 about public lands in VT. The only "national" bill he got passed was regarding veteran benefits- which was a minor bill but had broad bi-partisan support.

Second- despite his broad name recognition - he is flailing.

Third- the evidence from the last election... and polling from this one... A substantial portion of his backers will not vote if they can't vote for him. Maybe more alarming- a substantial portion did/will vote for Trump instead.

Fourth- when I get off the left coast- I see no real support for him. A lot of angry people my age and older. And a bunch of young people. Both just fed up with "the system". See point 3

Fifth- no offense to Jimmy Carter who I think was a good man... but Bernie would be another one term president that throws the pendulum back the other direction for years or decades to come.

Sixth- I can not support anyone that lets and ever changing congress decide what gets covered by health care. Woems rights, LQBTQ. Addiction... the list goes on...wil be caught in this cycle that can change every 2 years...

Finally- I don't see the left being so weak as the right. They aren't going to cave like many did for Trump. Bernie has pretty much zero chance of getting all his "promises" passed through congress. And I really don't see him having the ability to deal with the presidential things he could actually do.

That said... I like him adding to the debate on the campaign. And I wish he'd step down from congress and let someone who can actually accomplish something have a say for VT.
