During the 10th Annual Pomo Honoring Month, hear from elders of California tribes as they share stories about growing up Native American. Hear their experiences living as a member of a native tribe while negotiating mainstream white culture.
For 13,000 years, Pomo people have lived in Sonoma County. The site of their village, Batikletcawi (where elderberry grows), was on the bank of the Laguna de Santa Rosa, where Sebastopol now stands.
One of many events during the 10th Pomo Honoring Month organized by local volunteers from the Pomo Project (www.pomoproject.org (http://www.pomoproject.org/)) to foster awareness of local indigenous Pomo history and traditions, support Pomo people having an active voice in contemporary challenges and value collaboration with all Pomo people toward reconciliation and understanding.
