You will find an explanation for the human origins of climate change, and explanation derived from social psychology in my new book, "Requiem for a Dying World" by John Omaha, Ph.D. available on Amazon. (https://www.amazon.com/Requiem-Dying-World-John-Omaha/dp/1797499947/) My analysis derives from and expands Ernest Becker's analysis in his seminal book, "The Denial of Death."

Humans' death anxiety is established in the first days, weeks, and months of life. Rarely are infants soothed sufficiently to be able to withstand the terror of hunger, thirst, darkness, loneliness, abandonment, and disease. The fear of death motivates greed, entitlement, misogyny, and mindless expansion. The less emotional support an infant has in early life, the more likely that person will act out against the environment.

Humans externalize their death anxiety by provoking fear of death in others through wars, invasions, bombing, landmines, phosphorous bombs, and IEDs. Humans externalize their fear of death by murdering others.

These behaviors originate from a profound terror that originates at a developmental time when the part of the brain that generates narratives has not yet formed, the terror and associated images resides in the unconscious, it IS the unconscious.

The terror affects thought, emotion, and behavior. The two neural pathways that hold the terror are extremely rapid and are not readily susceptible to review by the much slower, single pathway that assesses whether a behavior is beneficial or not. Resolving the crisis that is producing climate change is made much more difficult because to do so requires acknowledging our mortality, so the pathways I've described block any solutions.

If you are puzzled by climate change and terrified by our inability to stop it, you will find a model that explains these phenomena. You will find a suggested course of action, not to stop the destruction of our world because the forces promoting destruction are much greater than any countervailing force. The book recommends that we celebrate the beautiful world that we once had and that is being destroyed by the Contagion of greed, entitlement, and money. Star Man
