ONE click to install and your search engine is switched - and at least 80% of their INCOME GOES TO PLANT TREES. Over TEN MILLION already planted!

You search the web, we plant trees
Ecosia is like any other search engine, with one major difference: we use our profits to plant trees.

We plant trees where they’re needed most
Our trees benefit people, the environment and local economies.

Say more! If you switch to Ecosia, do you really lose nothing at all in the way of Internet power or other cyber goodies you get with Google? Is it just like Google but without any ads or dubious corporate shenanigans? What about cost? Are they strong and stable? Have you yourself switched?

After I posted this I saw Barry's post and read the link which analyzed Ecosia and answered most of my questions.

I use Startpage. It was free and easy to get on my Mac, and Startpage googles for you, and protects your identity. They also have Ixquick for keeping yr emails private. I think there is a cost involved with that, or i'd have that too!
But I love the part about planting trees/Ecosia...

Yes, planting TREES. Millions of trees.
Wondering, have you switched?

Thanks to GaiaSophia, I've realized that I didn't make it clear that
I'VE BEEN USING ECOSIA FOR ABOUT A WEEK - AND IT IS FINE. PERFECT. SEAMLESS.
Maybe even got a few saplings lined up to plant...
Go for it!

Some things to consider: Searches don't plant trees, only ad clicks do. Personally, I rarely click on ads. How about you?
Here are a couple of reviews from Quora members: (https://www.quora.com/Is-Ecosia-better-for-the-environment-than-Google#)

"Ecosia is owned by Microsoft. With Ecosia you’re using the search engine of Bing. This search engine is not entirely powered by green energy. Google is powered entirely by green energy. (https://www.greentechmedia.com/articles/read/google-officially-hits-100-renewable-energy-target#gs.ydKn1FJZ) Besides that, Google is far more efficient, you have to search less times on Google than on Ecosia, which reduces the use of energy. Therefore, with Ecosia you still have a big impact on the environment, which can’t be compensated with planting trees. With using Google, you won’t have the same emissions.
So the best thing you could do is just using Google, and giving some money to a tree planting organization.

My personal recommendation:
If you want to donate to WWF, without using Ecosia and using your mobile, simply download charity miles and select WWF as your choice in return of miles walked/travelled on vehicle.
Although there's a fixed pool currently in above app currently but donation distribution is affected because of app usage, your cause gets higher support for sure.
Answer to this question: Companies like Amazon pay ‘Ecosia’ startup per click (it’s how nearly all online advertising works). No clicks, no revenue
‘‘just using Ecosia does nothing to help anyone (only genuine clicks on ads does – but not buying stuff would arguably help even more)”.

Thanks Shandi, for this info.
Someone private emailed me today and I realized I need to clarify:
I'm happy with Startpage, which protects our identity while it google searches for me, was/is free and supereasy to install!
BTW, I get no perks etc., for recommending them etc., I'm just really happy with their service, and I don't trust google etc.
with Respect to all of yr choices,
Kindly,
dusty
