I've been watching SR City Council meetings pretty regularly for about five years, and I'll bet a psychiatrist would diagnose Tom Schwedhelm as sociopathic. He's the one who's been inciting the police to commit abominable crimes against the homeless for the past year or two. Well, guess who's just become mayor? There will be all-out police war against Santa Rosa's homeless, which means more suicides and more deaths from exposure.

If you can think of anyone who might have unfilled space in a basement, attic, garage, tool shed or barn--ANYTHING--if they can even sneak an extra person into their dorm room, please, please ask them to take someone in. There's no need to risk taking on someone who might get drunk, fall asleep with a lighted cigarette and burn the place down. The person can ask Living Room or homeless shelter staff to recommend someone who can safely stay at their home. Also, as one of the first volunteer advocates at Camp Michela, I know a lot of homeless people, so the person can ask me. Please help us save some lives this winter.

Thanks.
Dana

Here's an email you could send to the mayor of santa rosa, Tom Schwedhelm. Ask him to put the discussion of our Winter Shelter Proposal on the Jan. 8, 2019 city council meeting .

Please write a sentence or two of your own and send your email to the addresses below.

Mayor Schwedhelm and Vice Mayor Rogers,

Merry Christmas and happy holidays to you and yours.

I would like to request the subject proposal be placed on the agenda for the January 8th meeting of the city council.

We sympathize with the budgetary and other demands on your council time. We are committed to getting the council members a more detailed proposal around the New Year, so that council discussion time is conserved. Given:

-the urgency of our shelter crisis;
-the flexibility that our shelter crisis declaration mandates;
-the site’s excellent fit with the proposed use;
-the ready precedents regionally;
-and the city’s ability to monitor at will,

We submit that required consideration and analysis by staff and council is modest.

This is a modest proposal, covering a limited period of time, that partially addresses a particularly at-risk portion of our destitute’s need for winter shelter. Delays are antithetical to the shelter’s purpose.

Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Respectfully,

(this is where your name goes)

I would add "Delays are antithetical to the compassionate intentions for your destitute in this community".

If you truly care about the homeless, and realize that at any time, this may happen to YOU and/or your loved ones. Please take a moment to send out this request, so they know "we're watching".

This is what I sent out just now, with minor changes:

Still trying to figure out what this thread is about. Is it about the proposal for between 6th and 7th? Or a winter shelter?
