Dear Family & Friends,

It is with great excitement (and sore muscles!!) that I tell you I am training for a half marathon and that I’ll be running in the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco on October 22nd as a member of Team in Training (TNT). I know this sounds absolutely crazy (although not as crazy as the full marathon) and you are probably asking why would anyone want to run that far? The answer is because I can. I had been thinking about starting to run again and after watching my father-in-law heal from his motorcycle accident, running 13.1 miles doesn’t seem that difficult. I’m just grateful that my body will allow me to train. And you are invited to participate with me. However, the good news is you don’t have to hit the pavement with me!!

This is where I need your help. I have committed to raise $3500 (my ‘over the top goal’ is $7500) to support the cause and would love your support. Absolutely any amount will help. It all adds up! Your donation will help the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission of finding cures and saving lives. Plus it’s tax deductible. Over 75% of the $3500 will go towards research and patient services, as will 100% of the amount I reach above and beyond the $3500.

To help motivate me and keep me running, I joined TNT. Not only do they provide me with a great 4 month training program, but they are part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, a non-profit health organization dedicated entirely to finding a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma (which affects all other cancers as well). The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s 64 chapters support research, patient financial aid, education, and community services. Everyone on my team is raising funds to help stop these diseases from taking more lives. (Did you know every 5 minutes someone in the US learns that he or she has leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease or myeloma?)
Any time I’m struggling to finish my mileage or just get out there and train, I think of my honored teammate, Dylan Squires. Dylan is 14 and was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) in January 1996. He has undergone extensive treatments, is currently receiving treatments and is almost in remission. If he can get through all that, I can certainly run 13 miles.

It is this easy --

Go to my TNT training page: www.active.com/donate/tntdms/tntdmsDRoper (https://www.active.com/donate/tntdms/tntdmsDRoper)

I am running these 13.1 miles in honor of all individuals battling leukemia; these people are the real heroes of my team. On behalf of TNT and my chapter’s honored teammate, Dylan, I thank you for your consideration.

Every dollar counts so much!

Love & Light –
Dawn

Is the money that is raised (or any part of it) used for ANIMAL RESEARCH?
Most of these groups and events DO support animal research and I can't in good conscience do so myself.
I stopped doing the American Lung Association's annual bike event because of this aspect of their fundraising. My husband stopped doing the AIDS fundraiser bike rides for the same reason.
