Anybody have any strong opinions about the various candidates for LOCAL offices on the June 5th ballot, including:

US Rep - 2nd District: I support Jared Huffman!
US Rep - 5th District: MIke Thompson will win 1st place, so I suggest voting for Nils Palsson so he gets second place.
To read the Press Democrat’s editorial on these candidates, go here (https://www.pressdemocrat.com/opinion/8314955-181/pd-editorial-thompson-and-huffman).

State Senator 2nd District: Mike McGuire
State Assembly 10th District: Marc Levine
County Clerk-Recorder-Assessor? To read the Press Democrat’s editorial on this race, go here (https://www.pressdemocrat.com/opinion/8266361-181/pd-editorial-leonard-tops-a).
District Attorney: (former DJ and station manager for KVRE, KRSH and KRCB) Scott Murray has dropped out of the race (https://www.pressdemocrat.com/news/8164466-181/defense-attorney-drops-campaign-for?ref=related) :(

Sheriff: Lots of discussion has been posted here about this race. Most Waccos, including me, seem to be supporting John Mutz.

Regional Measure 3: I support the toll increases. To read the Press Democrat’s editorial on this measure, go here (https://www.pressdemocrat.com/opinion/8221185-181/pd-editorial-regional-measure-3).

West Sonoma County Union High School District: I support this bond.

Anybody have a strong opinion on these races, besides Sheriff??

I am voting for Rod Marusic for Clerk, Registrar of Voters and Assessor. This is because many people are getting cheated on the Property Tax Assessment, meaning over-valuing their property to get more tax. And it costs a lot of money to file an appeal and you'd have to employ an appraiser to contest over-valuation. The situation is adversarial and it really shouldn't be. These are county employees. They work for us. Maybe this man has the right attitude. There to serve the public and treat us fairly.

Here's what he has to say:

Supporting You

Dedicated to valuing every piece of property fairly and accurately in accordance with California law.

I will offer educational outreach programs, both live events and web-based, so you can more easily learn to navigate our complex revenue and taxation codes; and to better help you with trusts, legal entities, exclusions, and exemptions for disabled veterans and homeowners.

It is my mission to provide every person we serve with the highest level of customer service, transparency, fairness, and respect. I have been a proud Sonoma County resident for the past 20 years, and I am fully committed to serving you.

Rod's Candidate Statement:

I am running for office because Sonoma County needs a strong leader and a qualified assessment specialist; now, more than ever.

My mission: To treat everyone with respect, give great service and follow-through on my commitments. I pledge transparency, accountability, and fiscal responsibility. I will protect your voting rights, and ensure our technology & records are up-to-date and secure.

I will uphold fair, accurate property valuations and offer educational outreach programs to help answer taxpayers’ questions. I will work with our legislators to advocate for increasing homeowners’ exemption and expanding Proposition 60 to all of California.

I bring 30 years of solid work experience to the table: 20 years in private and 10 years in the public sector for the Sonoma County Assessor’s Office. As a former business owner, realtor, Fortune 500 manager to my current position, Assessment Specialist for the Sonoma County Assessor’s Office, I see firsthand where support is needed from all sides.

I have a proven track record helping people, from collaborating to reduce health care costs for many Sonoma County employees to improving fire safety for new construction, working with the California State Fire Marshal’s Office.

Let’s work together. I’m a proud 20 year Sonoma County resident, honored to serve.

I'd suggest reading the candidates statements in the sample ballot. For all contested races that is. To me that's more important than what the Press Democrat has to say for sure.

And I'll vote for Scott Murray for DA anyway; his name's still on the ballot.
