Sheriff's Dept Phone Scam (https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?post=80792913)Yesterday I received 2 messages from a Deputy Edward Cox of the Sonoma County Sheriff's Department about an "emergency" in the first message and an "urgent situation" in the second message. He left his phone number: 971-294-1132. When I called the number, the announcement said it was for Deputy Edward Cox etc. Well, it turns out the area code is for the Portland OR area and there is no Deputy Edward Cox with the SCSD. I'm assuming it is a scammer trying to separate me from some of my heard-earned money. Don't let it happen to you.

The sheriff's office also posted a warning about:

"Scammers target Citizen with fake "Federal Jury Summons".

On 4/20/18, a victim received a call from a subject who identified himself as “Captain Al Vernon” of the “Santa Rosa Sheriff’s Civil Department”. The caller told the victim that she had failed to respond to a Grand Jury Federal Summons which she had been personally served on March 1st, 2018 and she had missed her court date of April 18th, 2018. Since she did not respond to the summons she needed to pay fines to avoid being arrested.
