Here are several videos I found quite interesting and disturbing about the Cambridge Analytica scandal. One of many things that they lay bare is to the existent politicians explicitly create and exploit fear for their own purposes. What's to be done about this? I don't know. Educating the public about the techniques used to capture a users profile information is a start, along with creating awareness around fear mongering in general. Beyond that including governmental regulations, it's hard to see a path forward. I don't think Facebook is to blame here, but as the first of the videos points out, their business model is easily abused.
I'm encouraged by the villain turned hero in this case, Christopher Wylie, is going to be testifying to the House Intelligence Committee (https://www.cbsnews.com/news/cambridge-analytica-christopher-wylie-agrees-to-testify-before-house-intelliengence-committee/).
