This act will require the sponsors of a campaign ad to be named by their proper names in the ad, so people know who wants what they're advertising.
California DISCLOSE Act on Governor Brown's desk
— Ask him to sign!
Grassroots action is working in California! After an intense coalition campaign generating thousands of phone calls and over 100,000 signatures, AB 249, the California DISCLOSE Act, passed the California legislature on overwhelming bipartisan votes!
If Governor Jerry Brown signs AB 249, California will lead the nation in the fight to stop secret money from buying elections. Award-winning columnist Thomas Elias just called AB 249 "arguably the most important bill to pass the Legislature in years". He's right.

Authored by Assemblymembers Kevin Mullin and Marc Levine, and sponsored by the California Clean Money Campaign, AB 249 includes rules so you can actually read the top funders of both ballot measure and independent expenditures for TV ads, radio ads, print ads, online ads, and robocalls. Just as important, it also includes new follow-the-money earmarking rules for tracking money as it passes through multiple layers, so initiative ads can't intentionally mislead voters about who paid for them.
Clean Money supporters like you have conquered many obstacles on the long road to the Governor's desk, but his signature is far from guaranteed. Powerful interests want him to veto it.
