As many of you may already know, I have spent the last two decades researching and writing about Monsanto’s efforts to dominate global agriculture as a purveyor of specialty seeds and the well-known and widely used weed killer called Roundup. The research has led me to a dark place - evidence of decades of deception surrounding Roundup and its active ingredient glyphosate, and the impacts on people and the environment. I’ve pulled it all together in a new book titled

For me, Whitewash is more than an exposé about the hazards of one chemical or the actions of one company. It’s also a call to remember the lessons of Rachel Carson and Silent Spring as evidence mounts that we are in a very precarious point as the push for pesticide dependence and the drive for corporate profits take precedence over people’s lives and our environment.

Erin Brokovich said about Whitewash: “I am hopeful that Carey’s book will be a wake-up call for more transparency about the dangers surrounding many chemicals in the marketplace.” My hope is that you will help share the messages and revelations contained in Whitewash with as many people as you can.

As the new administration in Washington sets about slashing pesticide regulations and contributing to heightened concerns about political interference in scientific research, I need your help to make sure this book resonates and doesn’t fall victim to the chemical industry interests who are already working to quash it. Time is of the essence. Both the EPA and the European Commission are currently analyzing whether to keep glyphosate on the market or limit its use, and there is rising global interest in the safety of this deeply pervasive pesticide. Truth and transparency must lead during this critical time.

Shepherd, thanks for the post. Monsanto tried to stop the Seralini peer reviewed study documenting the tumors etc. (Monsanto did their reports and stopped them short before tumors could be documented, US accepted their report). Are we not up to over 177 studies showing serious health problems and super weed resistance with this product? As far as our federal government goes, we have been colonized by the corporations and our government is for them now. All this needs to stop at the local level. Real change starts from the bottom and moves upward.

There are 200 communities in the US that have passed or are working on Community Bill of Rights/Rights of Nature. Our county needs to stop all toxins like this. No one has the right to poison people for profit. Why as citizens do we allow this? Nothing but OMRI (Organic Materials Research Institute) listed ingredients should be allowed in this county. We have high childhood cancer rates and clusters of adult cancers all over our county. Why are we allowing the growing use of Roundup AKA glyphosate? SCCA is trying to get it out of our schools and parks, how about everywhere!

Discussed today on KCBS radio news how the FDA suspended an employee's work when his research discovered glyphosate in honey. Here is a summary by the Huffington Post -

In examining honey samples from various locations in the United States, the FDA has found fresh evidence that residues of the weed killer called glyphosate can be pervasive - found even in a food that is not produced with the use of glyphosate. All of the samples the FDA tested in a recent examination contained glyphosate residues, and some of the honey showed residue levels double the limit allowed in the European Union,

According to the FDA records, samples tested by FDA chemist Narong Chamkasem showed residue levels at 107 ppb in samples the FDA associated with Louisiana-based Carmichael’s Honey; 22 ppb in honey the FDA linked to Leighton’s Orange Blossom Honey in Florida and residues at 41 ppb in samples the FDA associated with Iowa-based Sue Bee Honey,

In a Jan. 8, 2016 email Chamkasem pointed out to fellow FDA scientists that the EU tolerance level is 50 ppb and there is no amount of glyphosate allowed at all in honey in the United States.

This might be because cheap honey such as Sue Bee is adulterated with high fructose corn syrup which is made from genetically modified corn and heavily sprayed with glyphosate.
To get real, pure honey, it is best to get it at a farmer's market directly from a farmer.
