I just sent the following message to Color Of Change:
I'm a white womon who has always been an ally of people of color, so when Genentech started producing blue-eyed blondes(!) I asked them how many people would have to put down deposits of what amount, in order for Genentech to start researching a genetic engineering correction for the sickle cell anemia gene. They've pretty much ignored me, but if a national organization with thousands of members asked them the same question, maybe the company would pay attention. I believe that private corporations like Genentech have benefitted from tax-funded research that was approved under the impression that genetic engineering would enable us to eliminate sickle-cell, Tay-Sachs, schizophrenia, hemophilia, MS, etc. Would Color Of Change be willing to ask Genentech (or any other genetic engineering company or government agency) what it would take to get moving to end Sickle Cell?

If you'd like to add your voice, Genentech's email address and phone number are [email protected] (https:// [email][email protected]) and 800-821-8590 (tel:800-821-8590).
