Wikipedia: The 1973 Chilean coup d'état was a watershed event in both the history of Chile (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Chile) and the Cold War (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cold_War). Following an extended period of social unrest and political tension between the right-controlled Congress of Chile (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Congress_of_Chile) and the socialist (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Party_(Chile)) President (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_Chile) Salvador Allende (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salvador_Allende), as well as economic warfare (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economic_warfare) ordered by US President (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/President_of_the_United_States) Richard Nixon (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Nixon),[6] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Chilean_coup_d'%C3%A9tat#cite_note-6) Allende was overthrown by the armed forces and national police.[7] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Chilean_coup_d'%C3%A9tat#cite_note-7)[8]
The military deposed Allende's Popular Unity (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Popular_Unity_(Chile)) government and later established a junta that suspended all political activity in Chile and repressed left-wing movements, especially the communist and socialist parties and the Revolutionary Left Movement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revolutionary_Left_Movement_(Chile)) (MIR). Allende's appointed army chief, Augusto Pinochet (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augusto_Pinochet), rose to supreme power within a year of the coup, formally assuming power in late 1974.[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Chilean_coup_d'%C3%A9tat#cite_note-9) The United States (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States) government, which had worked to create the conditions for the coup,[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Chilean_coup_d'%C3%A9tat#cite_note-Winn_2010_239.E2.80.93275-10)promptly recognized the junta government and supported it in consolidating power.[11]

Remember 2 Monday mornings ago - October 2 ?

Waking up to the aftermath of the shooting - 58 deaths.

Now we have big fires - 41 deaths.

Those are the kinds of casualties inflicted by America's Terror War - every day.

Although I think the casualties from America's Terror War are quite a bit higher than 41, or 58, civilians killed each day, every day - for 16 years. Doctors without Borders has that kind of numbers.

I refer to the "progressive" community in Sonoma County as "Faux Progressives". The anti-war sentiment that was so strong among us in the 1960's ... it's gone.
