I read a recent PD front page article on the controversy about building rail service from Cloverdale to the ferry landing at Tiburon. Apparently Marin civic leaders are against it, because it will cut into the parking space around one of their favorite shopping centers in Tiburon. And they're afraid it will increase traffic congestion on one of the main drags in San Rafael.

They're missing the point, aren't they? Seems to me that a rail line would bring more potential customers to their shopping center, far exceeding any reduction of business due to fewer parking spaces. As far as traffic congestion in San Rafael - wouldn't that difficulty just be removed by building elevated platforms and/or rail overpass'?

I rarely visit south Marin and SF, just because it's a major hassle and expense to drive & park. I would be one of the many more-frequent or new visitors to those areas if I could step onto a train up here, and then just get off in Tiburon or step from the train onto the ferry for SF.

I read a letter from the Marin Conservation League saying that the rail
( versus drivers) would not offset any global warming, they just couldn't support it. Unbelievable! It just seems like thinly veiled elitism. It's OK for the service industry, police and fire to come in to work, but we don't want you people to get comfortable being here. Andrea-ps thanks for the appropriate photo!
