What is schadenfreude anyway?
Oh, America!
It is so much fun to laugh at you.
Until you realize it's like laughing at your aged father when he pisses his pants addressing the
mourners at his best friend's funeral
Or like when you laugh upon learning that one of your first hook-ups, a virgin when you got
her drunk and fucked her, has OD'd on heroin.
Yeah, America, it is so much fun to laugh at you.

America is like that aged father. It had failings, major failings, but it maintained an image of respectability, just an image. But it was like our father and we loved it for that reason alone. Now it is old, and all of its flaws are exposed. Trump and the Republicans embody those flaws. Only the true Progressive, Bernie Sanders, understands what do do to correct the situation. America is a tragic case. America was founded by people infected with a Contagion of individualism, self-absorption, greed, spiritual emptiness, violence, misogyny, racism, and money. America told itself lies like it was a Christian nation. Now it has entered the phase of dementia. I acknowledge that my poem's imagery is violent. It was meant to be. The droughts besetting Australia and India and Pakistan will come to America soon enough as will the violent deluges. I doubt that America will wake up. America is incapable of waking up, incapable of freeing itself from the Contagion. I wrote the poem for myself, to express my own anger and anguish at the destruction of a nation, or a world, that could have been great. Star Man
