Does any company make washers that are not high-efficiency?

My new HE washer cleans poorly. so tried to buy a used one, but it made my clothes smell like oil. Does anyone know of a company that make washers like they used to be?

I've had an LG front loader that I got from Home Depot for about 5 years. Works great so far.

Probably best not to buy a used washer, unless you can't afford a new one.

I assume you mean a top loader without an energy star rating. These are still available new, and plenty of used ones too for cheap, and most still work great. The high efficiency of front loaders is acheived by way less water use, less power needed for the agitator cycles, and better shorter spin dynamics for getting water out. The biggest savings is in water use, takes a lot of energy to heat water. But it is a very different wash process. Front loaders can clean well, try the longer cycles, it takes them longer to dissolve dirt since they work it with less water.
