Lots of dogs spend days locked up by themselves in a house, typically with a neighbor around the corner where another dog is locked up and lonely.

I've been brainstorming the idea of something like a carpool system (I write carpool software (https://www.spaceshare.com)) to match people based on where they live and what their companion animals need.

This is still an early brainstorm. Suggestions? Participants?

This sounds like the beginning of a good idea, but you'll have to get it more organized so that everyone's pets are safe, from harm as well as contagious diseases. And there'd have to be some kind of human supervision---you couldn't just place everyone in a big backyard and drive off to work, expecting everyone to "play nice, don't fight" or get pregnant, or....see how it gets kind of troubling? But!...it still sounds like an idea, but almost like doggy day-care, which already exists at several boarding facilities in the county.

Yes, it's just a brainstorm, I'd love to find people who want to co-create. My initial thought was not to create another doggy-day-care, but rather just to help neighbors connect. Not to create something expensive with lots of dogs and oversight, just help people make the right connections so they can do this on their own.

If anyone wants to participate now and find their dog a daytime companion or two, I don't have contacts for you, but would love to hear how your efforts go. You could post details here and see if you get lucky (the missing link, so that in the future people wouldn't need as much luck, the piece I want to provide: how to get enough participants onto one website and sort them out by neighborhood and other characteristics. A good partnership would be with someone who would write articles and blogs and find ways to advertise a matching site, I could program the matching system.) Post the questions you would/do ask so we can learn from your experience!
