Sign petition for final Senate vote for AB 700, the California DISCLOSE Act!
AB 700 will strike the biggest blow yet against the unlimited secret money unleashed by Citizens United by requiring that ballot measure ads and ads about candidates by outside groups clearly and prominently disclose their top 3 true funders — on the ads themselves.
Unfortunately, AB 700 is under attack from the Fair Political Practices Commission, which has recently been routinely opposing reform bills supported by good government groups1. We and other experts like Bob Stern, principal co-author of the Political Reform Act that created the FPPC, have looked closely at their concerns and decided that other provisions of the bill address the issues they raise2.
That's why more than 300 organizations and leaders support AB 700 compared to only 2 who openly oppose it: It signals the end of special interests being able to legally to deceive voters about who is really paying for political ads — including ballot measure ads and SuperPAC ads supporting or attacking candidates!
