I heard your heart
close against my ear

felt your arms
tight
around my neck

as above it all
the infernal noise blasted
again and again

and the fire
tore through you
through me, and

I heard your breath flow soft a last time
felt your arms loosen their hold on my life
cried my salt into our red river.
