Hi All,
I'm thinking about a 3 week vacation in Italy in October and wondering if anyone has been to Rome, Florence ...Tuscany recently. I would love to hear about your experience and your suggestions.

Grazie!

Be sure to spend LOTS of time in Florence and the surrounding area. The art is incredible :monalisa: , not to mention the wine, women, (and presumably, men and song!). My kind of town! Your mileage may vary...

I'm leaving next week for over two weeks for Rome, Florence, Venice, and Genova, where my daughter lives. It was suggested to get the book, GO Italy 2006. Has alot of info on places to stay and things to do. Best, Judy

hello,
i spent five months in florence for school last year, and my advice is this:
try to speak as much italian as possible, the italians respect that, even if it's just prego and grazie, per favore. also, don't eat at any restaurants near the ponte vecchio or the uffizi, they are hiked up for tourists. places near the bargello and behind the duomo are more resonable. take a train to cortona from florence, it's nine euro, where under the tuscan sun was filmed, it is small and no tourists travel there! visit the accademia very early in the morning to see the david, it's get's very crowded. Bring lot's of layers, because it can get quite cold at night. it is best to ignore the gypsy's because if you say "im sorry" or speak to them all it is an invitation for them to follow you more. just say "no", or ignore them. in rome, sit on the spanish steps at night and people watch. amazing. throw coins in the trevi fountain, and don't get a guide for the roman forum, unless you really want one. get the map. don't pay more than 3 euro for gelato, or 2 for espresso, and have lots of fun. just sit outside and enjoy yourself!
