Attention: Prius Owners

Hi all you Prius owners:

Just heard from a friend that now a Prius must be smogged even though exempt in the past.ever since it's inception.....Does anyone know why this law changed? My friend thinks it was a political move by the Bureau of Automotive Repair..as they lobbied ..and now they are making more $$$.....

Did you know about this and if so, do you know why this law was changed?

Why shouldn't a Prius or other hybrid vehicle be smogged? They use a gasoline engine and presumably are equipped with pollution control devices. Do you think a Prius should be exempt from inspection even if the smog equipment is malfunctioning?

Apparently the previous testing equipment wasn't able to accurately test a hybrid. That has changed. I am wondering if you need to find specific places to test a hybrid? And how much would it cost?

You missed my point...I am wondering why it was exempt and now it isn't....same set up so what happened?

I believe that Ms. Wolfe gave a clear and concise (and plausible) reason. Perhaps it's the word "exempt" that is confusing to you.
