Here's Obama's full 25 min speech in Alaska yesterday. It's a riveting call to action:

The key moment for the world's response to will be United Nations summit in Paris in December of this year. Here's a good article from the Guardian about the conference (https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jun/02/everything-you-need-to-know-about-the-paris-climate-summit-and-un-talks). And here's a great article from the New Yorker (https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/08/24/the-weight-of-the-world) that profiles the fascinating woman, Christiana Figueres, leading the United Nations effort.

The speech was good, but the hypocrisy is that he approved Royal Dutch Shell's application to drill for oil in the Arctic Sea. Scientists say that there is a huge amount of methane frozen beneath the sea floor, which is 60 to 80 times more potent than carbon dioxide. Disturbing the sea floor by drilling will unleash an incredible amount of methane into the atmosphere, creating such rapid warming of the planet that it would take an enormous amount of time for the Earth to recover. Life as we know it would certainly be threatened.
