When I was 27 years old I was infected with Lyme disease ... I did not know this at the time and the problem was not discovered until my husband tested positive for Lyme disease at Palm Drive emergency room after he woke up with half of his face paralyzed .. I was 35 years old at the time and both he and I had been ill for years with mysterious symptoms which were getting worse with time ... I was so ill at this time that I was rapidly losing my business with eight employees because I no longer had the energy to run it ...
One would think that his diagnosis would be a life saver for us, but it was just the beginning of a long struggle for health. The 30 days of antibiotics that were given to him just didn't work for very long and I was having trouble even getting a positive diagnosis although I knew that I was also infected. I finally had to go to a Lyme doctor and pay $100/hour out of my own pocket for a diagnosis and treatment.
At the time there was a doctor by the name of Dr. Burrascano publishing information on the internet warning that the tests were inconclusive, that the disease was spread by sexual contact, and that it was a smart bug able to hide in the body despite repeated treatments with antibiotics. He was under attack for publishing this information ...
Using his information, my Lyme doctor in Sonoma County ( who quit because of overwhelming cases ), and a doctor who was a personal friend, I got past late stage lyme disease after 5 years of constant struggle. The cost to me and my husband was enormous and changed our life forever.
