An Empty Canoe


Cast off from the shores of humanity<o:p></o:p>

Set adrift from the crowded calamity<o:p></o:p>

Stepped away from this normal insanity<o:p></o:p>

Turned my back on this worn shallow vanity<o:p></o:p>

Drifting off on this small boat all alone<o:p></o:p>

Calmer waters will be my new home<o:p></o:p>

Inner peace now is all I desire<o:p></o:p>

Can’t put out every literal fire.<o:p></o:p>

Many wish only to try to control me<o:p></o:p>

and devotedly work to discourage me<o:p></o:p>

Better off then to cast off alone<o:p></o:p>

live a new life set adrift on my own.<o:p></o:p>

Many memories are made over time<o:p></o:p>

But not all of them age like good wine.<o:p></o:p>

Never grateful for what I can give<o:p></o:p>

Is truly no way that I had hoped to live.


Never here when I needed you the most,<o:p></o:p>

Time to push off this dock and just coast.

Standing alone in this empty canoe


I will no longer be looking for you.
