Greenberg’s case
EDITOR: It is clear that all five Sebastopol City Council incumbents find my independent candidacy threatening (“Challenger shakes up Sebastopol race,” Monday).
With the closing of Palm Drive Hospital, Sebastopol faces its greatest health care and job loss crisis in history. Yet our council refuses to play any active role whatsoever in helping the only effort under way to restore our emergency room. Voters can see my five-point plan about what our council could — and should do — to play an active role in the reopening effort, at GreenbergForCouncil.com.
It is no coincidence that I endorse Dennis Colthurst and Richard Powers for the Palm Drive District board, while my three fellow candidates and Sebastopol Tomorrow all endorse Jim Horn, who, through his actions, has emerged as the leading opponent of the effort to reopen an emergency room.
Political dissent is an essential part of democracy and not, as Sarah Gurney suggests, a prelude to “dysfunctional” governance. Without transparency and dissent, we would not have gotten Measure M on the ballot to restore library hours.
And without sorely needed independent voices on the Palm Drive District board and Sebastopol’s City Council, we may not be able to reopen the emergency room that a vast majority of citizens want and need.
