My neighbor has a beautiful 15 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback, Boxer, and Pit Bull mix breed. Her name is Riley and I have a lot of personal experience with her since she was about 7 months old. I have been among a handful of people caring for and loving Riley much of her life. I visit with her most every day, and I dog sit with her on occasion. I’m looking for a UNIQUE SITUATION where a loving family will adopt Riley, but allow me time with her on occasion. It takes a village to raise a dog. ;-) For example, dog walks or pet sitting here and there.

Riley needs a new home because her human, who happens to be my neighbor (Mike), is enrolling full time in college and work, and will not have appropriate time for her, so he’s entrusted me to find her three things.

1. A temporary foster home until she finds her “forever home”. I'm happy to co-foster, but cannot host in my home.
2. A permanent home with a family that likes Riley’s active dog breed mix.
3. A family who wants and knows how to accommodate a high energy dog, NOT to be confused with hyper. Riley is not hyper, but by her breed, she simply has a lot of energy and calms easily and looks for a leader for direction. However, she is best suited for a person who likes to exercise, or take her to Dog Park and/or has another medium energy dog that wants play and share companionship. Riley is quite an athlete and she wants to show you that side of herself. If she were a human, Riley would be an outfielder on a pro baseball team!

Things at which Riley excels:

Riley loves to fetch and return tennis balls. Just tell her to “leave it”.
Play with other dogs on backyard dog play dates. She has a current play mate everyday.
Likes walks on the leash, but she needs training not to pull.
Does just fine at keeping still under the table at outdoor restaurants where dogs are accepted. Just give her a minute or two to adjust.
Travels quietly and sleeps in automobiles.
Sleeps great in her crate at night. Just tell her “night-night”.
Is potty trained and knows how to use a doggy door to relieve herself.
She loves to get into bed (if you allow it) and will lie on her back and cuddle in yours arms.
I’m testing Riley for dog park suitability, and confident she’ll do just fine.
Riley has been spayed, micro-chipped, and has license and current vaccinations.

Things Riley needs to work upon:

Leash walk pulling, initial pouncing on her human for the first five seconds of greeting, and chewing on shoes or trash when she gets bored; ALL CORRECTABLE ISSUES with a little training. We will donate $75 toward her training classes when the fee is placed with an accredited trainer. Riley's adoption fee is $50.

My goal is to find Riley a foster or permanent home with people who meet the screening criteria to make sure she is not going in to the wrong hands or mismatched with people who are not active, harsh disciplinarians, or Class B “animal bunchers” who sell to animal testing laboratories.

Riley is sweet, and not aggressive with humans, albeit, a little shy and submissive in the first 30 seconds of meeting new people. She can eat her kibble from a bowl and you can put your hand in the bowl while she’s eating and she never growls or becomes food possessive.

Let me be clear, Riley is not a problem dog. She simply needs a new home with a family who wants to commit to a new animal family member. But the real bonus is to find the family who will stay local within Marin or Sonoma County, so I can see Riley once in awhile. I have no intentions of being clingy about her care or making attempts to co-raise her. Frankly, I’ simply care for and love her. And let's face it, it never hurts to have an extra person around who likes to walk your dog or pet sit once in awhile, right?

Please call me with inquiries. I’m happy to make introductions. Meet Riley and you’ll see that she’s a lovable adorable dog.
