28413Customers already substantially subsidize wages with tips (often time tips are MORE than what workers get paid by the eatery). Restaurant owners rely on this and get rich off of it. If you don't want to pay an ACA surcharge then stop paying tips as well.
If you ever run into a restaurant that tries to pull the major BS on you, please boycott them permanently, even if the retract it. It demonstrates the gargantuan sense of entitlement and grotesque hypocrisy not just by restaurant owners but also on the part of most business owners in general.
In Europe, labor unions rallied to eliminate tips as a practice because it ultimately hurts workers and allows scoundrel restauranteurs to laugh all the way to the bank with HUGE sums of money that they never had to pay to their workers in wages, thanks to the culture or canon of tipping.
