Who is Sonoma County Conservation Action? From their website:

Sonoma County Conservation Action (SCCA) is the nonpartisan, political arm of Sonoma County’s environmental movement. SCCA’s full time organizing staff has knocked on more than 50,000 doors each year since 1991, identifying environmentally concerned county residents, distributing information and election endorsements, generating membership and mobilizing residents to write to decision-makers and to volunteer for electoral campaigns. The power of person-to-person, grassroots organizing makes Conservation Action the most politically effective organization in Sonoma County.

One of SCCA’s driving goals is to create and maintain environmental majorities on the local City Councils and Sonoma County Board of Supervisors. This is done through our extensive candidate endorsement process, and the follow through of our canvassers, who door-knock, hand-shake and identify progressive voters months before every election. Conservation Action then watchdogs by holding the local elected officials accountable by publishing a political report card, which grades our electeds on their voting for the environment for the year, and on how well they are listening to their constituents.

Sonoma County Conservation Action will continue to steward the environmental vote by knocking on tens of thousands of doors each year, ushering in the next wave of environmentally concerned residents. Furthermore, we will continue to organize neighborhood precinct teams to facilitate a strong environmental vote. Conservation Action’s commitment to grassroots organizing in Sonoma County will ensure that future generations will be able to enjoy our scenic coast, majestic redwoods, and rolling hills.

Here's their press release:

Sonoma County Conservation Action has endorsed three council members for re-election to the Sebastopol City Council. Sarah Glade Gurney, Patrick Slayter, and newly appointed Councilmember Una Glass, are running as incumbent members of a collaborative team.

Glade Gurney is completing 10 years of service on the City Council, having served three terms as Mayor, and Slayter is seeking re-election following his first term. Glass is running for the first time, having been appointed to fill the seat made vacant by the death of her husband, Councilmember Michael Kyes.

In contrast to many past Councils, the three have worked harmoniously with Mayor Robert Jacob and Councilmember John Eder on new approaches to planning City development and attracting projects for infill development to avoid the pitfalls of confrontation and acrimony over projects, which split the community, and to focus on Sebastopol's Cittaslow ("Slow City") aspirations.

SCCA would like to see the current Council continue working as a partnership to: unify the downtown business district, reduce traffic congestion and enhance walkability, fund bicycle routes, and revise the General Plan to preserve Sebastopol's small-town charm, enhance its parks and creeks, and protect the Laguna de Santa Rosa.

SCCA Executive Director Dennis Rosatti said: "Sebastopol's current City Council is open to community input and practices transparent decision-making. It is a most welcome approach, and we think voters will agree that the incumbents have earned the chance to continue."

How many city council seats are up for grabs?

There are three seats on the Sebastopol City Council that will be filled by this election. The three incumbents that currently hold those seats are all running for reelection. They were all endorsed by Sonoma County Conservation Action. Additionally, one citizen is also running for one of the three available seats. Mayor Robert Jacob and Councilmember John Eder are not running at this time, as we were both elected in 2012.
