A
falling
needle
is like a
shooting star
trailing downward
from its lofty perch
high up in the branches.
It is the remnant of what was
yesterday’s new bursting of Spring
and today has burned up its life in this fall
as it jets rapidly downward to the earth
streaking like the comet’s blaze or
a shooting star from aeons past.
Its flash is symbolic of the
finite cycle of life of
the infinite universe.
