Does anyone know how to use Roxio SpinDoctor? I just got SpinDoctor to transfer my cassette tapes and LPs to iTunes. I'm having trouble with editing the divisions between tracks--it has been chopping up music, and I can't seem to redo the breaks. Help! I know it is a simple thing, but I just need to be shown once or talked through it. Please call me at 829-5649.
After I do this I'll have lots of LPs and cassette tapes to give away or sell....
Thanks so much,
Kathleen

I have not used this software, but may I advise you on an aspect of digital music that you may not have thought about? BACK IT UP! Either keep your original LP's and cassettes stored away, or buy a backup hard drive to store backups of all your digital music (and other important files).
I lost over 60 Gigs of music when my hard drive failed and I could have never replaced it... except that I had it stored on a backup drive. Plan and prepare for this disaster to avoid it.

Kathleen ,
I used this software one time, but it was months ago. I recall it being something like Garage Band , in that you have the tracks laid out on a graph and you can pull the linear graphic-picture to and fro or slice and dice it somehow. Is this right so far?
What I am suggesting that happened is that you dragged them so close together that there was minimal space between the tracks. Am I getting close to the problem?
Did you know that when you export the tracks to iTunes, the iTunes program also edits the tunes by default. It inserts a space between tracks....Are you getting my hint? If it inserts a space, and you have the tracks too close together or even touching or overlapping, then that space is inserted inside the music track!!!
If this is correct, then there are two possible solutions....First try dragging the tracks apart again to a couple of seconds of space. Then import again. This could solve that problem.
Or, secondly, go to iTunes preferences and tell it you do not want any space inserted between tracks. This may be in advanced preferences. But it is somewhere in the iTunes importing program, cause I read about it. Also, try reading the Spin Doctor manual, that is where I may have heard about this.
Good luck. And if you are a Mac user (many roxio users are) consider joining the NCMUG's (North Coast Mac User's Group) group for group support. Our online bulletin board is very active.

Hi. I haven't used Spin Doctor for many years and since I moved my 140 albums over to CD. There was an adjustment that would detect gaps in the music and decide to call them a separate track. That decision point had a manual adjustment so you can go look for that. It was not foolproof though and I finally gave up on trying to do it automatically. I went to software from Turtle Beach that included a sound editor and just found the gaps graphically, did a cut and file-save, and on.
In my current Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator version 6 in the Audio Central application there's a sound editor that does a very nice job of track detection. At least it marks them graphically and you can scroll through the tracks and try the marks. If it turns out a mark is wrong you just delete it.
