Large Scale Dog Rescue Needs Your Help
Early this week, the Sonoma Humane Society participated in a large scale dog rescue operation. The following is a brief and sometimes graphic description of the rescue effort. Our priority at this time is to ensure that the immediate needs of these animals are met. We are seeking assistance from our community of volunteers and supporters to help us do so.
On Tuesday, January 21st, a team of Sonoma Humane Society and Forget Me Not Farm staff and volunteers traveled outside of Sonoma County to remove dozens of dogs from unthinkable living conditions. The dogs, who vary in ages and stages from nursing moms with puppies to seniors, were housed in small, stacked crates. Their fur was matted and caked with urine and feces. From all appearances, they have had little exposure to human
contact other than that of their care-taker.
SHS staff and volunteers spent all of Wednesday performing health exams and starting
to clip away the matted and rancid fur. Medical exams revealed that most of the dogs
have horrible skin infections, advanced dental disease and fractured teeth. 50% of the dogs
have ear infections. Most are underweight, have roundworm, hookworm, giardia
and severe flea and/or lice infestations.
Help is desperately needed. In addition to donations (Specify Finnish Lapphund Rescue) of financial assistance, the following supplies can be donated to the SHS adoption center at
5345 Hwy 12 W, Santa Rosa, CA 95407.

Science Diet Dog Food
"Natural Balance" Dog Food Roll Beef Formula
Metal Food Dishes
Leashes and collars (size med)
2 Clipper Kits
Experienced Groomers for Clipping Friday 1/24, Sat 1/25 & Sun 1/26 on-site at Sonoma Humane Society (please contact Suzanne for details)
