From our colleagues Bay Area Intactivists. This type of thing happens with disturbing frequency because most American medical practitioners are uninformed or misinformed about the care and development of normal male genitals.

We received this message today (22 Nov 2013) from a mother whose intact son was nearly forcibly retracted by Dr. Paul Espinas at Kaiser Hayward. Thankfully this mother is aware of proper intact care but we are very concerned for the other children who are seen by Dr. Espinas.

"I am writing because I had a horrible experience with my son's new pediatrician this morning and I would like to put him on blast, if possible, to warn other parents to steer clear of him.

I brought my four-month-old intact son to his 'well baby' check up at Kaiser Hayward today. Everything went routinely until the very end when I though the exam was done and turned around to get my baby's clothes to put back on him. When I turned back around to the table, the pediatrician, Dr. Paul Espinas, had removed my son's diaper and was attempting to retract his foreskin. I immediately told him, 'Stop! Please don't do that!' He smirked and replied, 'What, this? You don't like this?' While doing it AGAIN.

He said my son was 'too tight' and he likes to see babies 'a little looser by now'. He said that urine and bacteria would cause my son's foreskin to close completely! When I replied that the average age of retraction is 10 and my son is urinating frequently and without any difficulty, he advised that I should start retracting him daily anyway to help it along.

I am furious and will be issuing a verbal and written complaint to Kaiser Hayward. Please feel free to share this with whomever you feel would benefit from this information…"
