well folks...after perusing and using the system for a few weeks, I have to say I just don't like it.....It's the feel. It just doesn't make me happy and connected like the old wacco....

please don't jump in and try to *fix* me.....it's just that way....it just doesn't feel like a *group* and it never will.

I agree about wanting the old wacco back. :crying:
I dont like this set up...it is hard to use.
I just dont like it.
I used to love to get on line and see wacco and now I just dont seem to be.
It wasnt broke but you had to change it and now it isnt fun.

I have to disagree. If it is GONE, as it was, the Yahoo-rug pulled out from under us, with no recourse but to start again from scratch, then I would say it was BROKE! And the "fix" is this new board, new lessons, re-creating. All of us learning more about communication.

Shadey_willowtree -

The problem, as I see it, is that yahoo arbitrarily punted the group. This means some distant third party had the power to do that and they did. They probably received a single complaint (that is all it takes) and poof - 3000 members disconnected.

You may not like this set-up yet and change always takes time but the biggest positive upside to Barry's decision here is to remove the 'distant third party' power to disrupt or dismantle the group. That is HUGE!!!

I have actually found the new BB to be MORE fun because I have more options and because of that I feel like I have more of a personal investment. I am hoping Barry gets around to letting us use avatars and having profiles and things like that.

And, it still works. I placed a request for a handyman and within 12 hours had 3 great replies. Granted it is taking time to rebuild the community base but I want Barry to succeed. I want this to grow into homey community one-of-a-kind bulletin board for north bay.

I want Barry have the power to control his own creation. Personally, I LOVE WACCO and the sense of personal community it accomplishes.

GO BARRY

I'm weighing in on the "it's okay" vote re Waccobb.net. However, I can see the problems:
-it takes 2 apps to reply to a post on the bb, both email (to read the post) and web browser, to reply. If you have a slow computer, this is a pain.
-text-only is simpler to deal with than having stylized background parts.
But:
-dealing with Yahoo is a pain in the ass. Their corporate attitude embodies among the worst of corporate "personhood," that is, impersonal, arbitrary, irresponsible, arrogant and abusive. Yahoo's misuse of its considerable social power is abuse in my opinion.

I've been using the new format, and it works, is my judgement.

I'm not involved at all with Wacco management. I don't have the expertise to suggest/make improvements. I wish there was a way to give users the simplicity they miss, while keeping the considerable WaccoBB user base, but we're better off free from the Yahoo! yoke.

How do we know that YAHOO is responsible for waccoBB going down? Barry could have deleted the group. I am a moderator of 3 yahoo groups and I have the power to do that and no members would be the wiser. Members have no way of knowing what happened. All we can do is make assumptions. I really don't know what happened to waccobb, but I think that the scenerio of yahoo shutting it down because they got a complaint/complaints from users VERY VERY unlikely. They are NOT that responsive.

It's absolutely fine with me that you don't like the new bulletin board. I certainly wouldn't try to change your mind (even if I think this one is far superior).

However, I think it is extremely rude, insensitive and a lot of other things I won't bother saying for you to suggest that Barry did something on purpose to take the bulletin board away from you. Someone really should wash your mouth out with soap.

SJM says"I think it is extremely rude, insensitive and a lot of other things I won't bother saying for you to suggest that Barry did something on purpose to take the bulletin board away from you. Someone really should wash your mouth out with soap."

There is no way to prove anything, but just suffice it to say, I have my reasons for speaking/thinking this. I just recognize it as a possibility and I'm not going to give my reasons here. You saying you(*someone*) want to put a bar of soap in my mouth to silence me, feels vaguely violent, but it won't silence me....

I'll keep speaking my mind as long as I live. Why don't you offer me some proof or something rational about this issue instead of your desire to silence me?

Since you are questioning Barry, and wondering if he might be the one who took down the website, I feel it in my right to question whether you, Wildflower actually are hosting/moderating 3 websites yourself!!! After all, I have heard in the past PLENTY of negatives about Yahoo's service to the talk group clients. They have a reputation for taking them down, without backup or warning. You can check it out, if you really are ignorant of this. Or if you are simply a troll of some kind, trying to give us a hard time, then maybe I have identified you, so we can know where you come from. Which is it?

Nah, I don't want to silence you, and there are no violent feelings whatsoever behind the "washing your mouth out with soap" comment. Maybe you're too young to remember that as a fake (as in comic book or tv show) threat mom's made to their kids for swearing....?

Anyway, go ahead and say whatever you want....and I will too. As the song goes: "It's only you and me and we just disagree...." In fact, so far, you and I have disagreed about every issue we have encountered here, so I probably should learn not to read your posts.

A small correction....I never said I "host" any "websites"...I moderate 3 listservs....... you can go to one of them by following the link in the subject line of this message.

I would urge to make only statements that are based on facts, and not on suspicions. It absolutely makes no sense to create bad vibes against anyone or anything without having hard facts to back it up. We are in as society that supposedly promotes innocence unless PROVEN differently.

So, if you don't like it here, I would hope you could provide constructive solutions for improvement. or find/ create something that you think will work for you or others somewhere else.

Keep it positive...

Yours,
Ingo

I could not have said this better myself. Thank you Ingo. Barry has my Full Support 100%. If I was not happy here, by all means I would move on.But I am not you.
There are many options. Tribe.net, [email protected] , [email protected], probably some other wacky sites I dont know of, craigslist.org has a place to yack about community stuff and anything else that might float your boat.
It was once said " Can't we all just get along"
I am very pleased with the move. I dispise the forced advertising on Yahoogroups, so to me this is a huge relief and am finding it fun to learn a new way of looking at things(WACCO)
Life is ever changing and so are websites. I see this move as nothing but possitive and it will evolve and smooth out and so will the kinks as it comes of age. Just like the rest of the internet has and does constantly.
Climbing down off my soap box now.
Cosmic hugs all around my fellow Waccarians.
Sincerely,
Ann

Barry has been asking for feedback....Remember?...So I am giving feedback! I truly miss the old wacco.....not the Yahoo corp stuff.....the way it worked, the way it felt. All these other options don't really fill the bill. I have tried them.

This is feedback.

OK, I'm going to put this idea that Barry shut down the Yahoo group to bed once and for all.....

the morning of the day that the yahoo group disappeared, Barry called me, (his girlfriend of 2 years), aghast, saying, "You won't believe this, but it's gone!! "what's gone?" I replied. "Wacco!" His attempts to find out what happened all have lead to yahoo saying it was a breach of terms of service (I have witnessed the phone calls) and they disabled his password. (I have seen him try to get on to no avail) He would not do that to himself. The real question: who in this fine community of enlightened folks, complained to yahoo?

Now, you might be saying to yourself, well, you're his girlfriend, of course you'll defend him. There's nothing to defend but his integrity. He didn't do it! period. He was as stunned as all of you and Barry cannot lie. He can't keep a secret, just incapable. No poker face abilities whats so ever.

I watch this dialog, and how some of you bash Barry for "crimes" imagined, and wonder, "Don't they get it? What about the gazillion hours he has spent moderating the old board and spent getting this one going, all in the name of community?"

If you don't like this board, don't use it. or make recommendations, or voice what could work better for you. Be part of the solution, not the problem. but STOP BITCHING!

respectfully submitted
Linda

Hey Karin / Wildflower

You said "All we can do is make assumptions"

I TOTALLY disagree and encourage you to NOT make assumptions or forward your unsubstantiated Barry bashing but rather keep an open and loving mind and heart.

You also say (in your profile) "I am a com*passionate* angel who loves to connect in community and help myself and others to find happiness and to create a more beautiful world. " That's wonderful, but I am having a hard time matching it to your posts ... and I encourage you to walk your talk here in this community!

Regards,
don

Hey All

From my own research, I have finally concluded that Yahoo did indeed shut down wacco. I believe it. The only missing piece for me is *why*...a member must have complained about something that happened and Barry may have violated the YAHOO TOS(terms of service) in his plans to move the group.... I did not see myself as bashing Barry. I just wanted to get at the truth.....

And at least a piece of it has been revealed.

Sorry Barry.....I missed the part where you adamantly/emphatically stated that you didn't close down wacco...at least purposely... and I am not trying to discredit your integrity.

Best Regards & Sincere Apologies

I did not close down the WaccoBB Yahoogroup, purposely or acccidently.

Yahoo would not specify what the Terms of Service violation was, though the most likely case would be that they found my requests for voluntary contributions to be in violation of the "No Resale of Service" clause.

But this is by no means clear. There have many reports of other Yahoogroups being deleted where there was no reason that could even be guessed for their removal. I don't think we will ever know for sure what happened and who was involved.
