Hello,
After seeing Al Gore's new movie, An Inconvienent Truth, I have been looking at ways to reduce my impact on the planet.

Today I took the time to find out how to cut out as much junk mail as I can.

This site was very helpful.

https://www.newdream.org/junkmail/optout.php (https://mail.vom.com/cgi-bin/dmailweb.cgi?cmd=url&url=https://www.newdream.org/junkmail/optout.php)

I did this part:
Sick of Credit Card Offers?
The main consumer credit reporting agencies, TransUnion, Experian and Equifax, maintain mailing lists that are often used by credit card and insurance companies to send out Junk mail. The good news is that you can call a single number to get your name and address removed from the mailing lists circulated by all three agencies (as well as that of a fourth company, Innovis).

Just call: 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688)

It was very fast and easy.

They also give these links:
Telephone solicitations
Cut down on calls from telemarketers by registering online at www.donotcall.gov (https://www.donotcall.gov/).

Junk e-mail
Reduce unsolicited commercial e-mail by registering online at https://www.dmaconsumers.org/consumers/optoutform_emps.shtml.

Helps you print out letters to send to various agencies to get off their lists. I sent out nine letters and it gave me links to two email addresses to use.

Another idea I read is sending items back to the folks that sent them to you with "REMOVE ME FROM YOUR LIST" written on the material. I haven't done this, but the person that posted it said it worked for her.

Regarding opting out for Experian and the like. This is also a good identity fraud security measure which is why I did it. BUT do not do this if you are in the process of applying for any type of credit or loan or even opening a charge account at a retail store. Wait till that's over and then do it. It's not permanent. You can opt back in as easily as you can opt out again.

I also have a method for getting rid of junk mail from companies with whom I have done business. Often I find that I buy something one time from a company and then they put me on their monthly mailing list forever after. As soon as I receive such an item I put it in a mailing envelope and send it right back to the address on it (or the corporate hq if no address) with a big note stuck on the cover asking them to remove me from their mailing list. So far, this seems to work.
