Richard Stallman has special credibility when he talks about these kind of things. Many people have observed and commented on the bad effects of corporate practices in our modern society. He's one of very few who has been able to change the way the world works by introducing a practical alternative, with truly democratic access to technology and ideas. His Free Software Foundation and other organizations who follow its principles have done more than anyone else I can think of to limit corporate control in our lives.
He's also pragmatic and analytical; he's not interested in demonizing anyone or exaggerating theoretical threats - he's very solidly grounded and interested in offering realistic solutions to well-defined problems.
