BP is still fighting fines in court. In fact, on September 30th, Phase II of the civil trial began.
What's Phase II? It's focus is on 2 key issues from the over 3-year-old Deepwater Horizon Disaster:
What efforts BP and other involved companies actually made to stop the release of oil and gas (and how prepared they were to do so), and...
Just how much oil was released into the Gulf.
Ordinarily, at such a pivotal moment, we would be sending you an action alert—but there's not much advocacy can do to help us at this phase. What's more important is spreading the word that it's not over.
To help do just that, we've joined with other members of the Mississippi River Delta Coalition to put together this 4 minute video. But we need your help to get to 5,000 views—will you watch and share with your friends? At the 0:30 mark, you'll find out how many days passed before BP first attempted to stop the disaster—and failed.
At 1:50, we'll let you know how the amount of oil in the Gulf compared to Exxon Valdez (spoiler alert: it's worse).
At 2:32, you'll find out the minimum number of times BP failed to stop the leak before finally claiming success.
And at 3:34, you'll find out how many tens of thousands of pounds an oil tar mat that was discovered on a Louisiana barrier island just this past summer weighed.
Please check out the video, share it with your friends, and help us tell BP: it’s time to restore the Gulf. (https://support.edf.org/site/PageNavigator/BP_Timeline_Video.html&autologin=true&utm_source=EDF%20action%20network&utm_medium=email-31881&utm_campaign=informational)
