Last night, the Sebastopol Planning Commission voted to recommend a complete ban on new drive-thrus in the City of Sebastopol. It also voted to apply the ban to current projects that have not reached the stage of having a building permit and beginning construction.
This is great for Sebastopol. Now it will be up to the Sebastopol City Council to enact a permanent ban on these environmental nightmares.
To that end, I submit the following poem:
Darkness is upon us,
the hour is late,
and the drive-thru now
awaits its fate
I'll make every effort
to be brief
so as not to cause you
undue grief
The purpose was once noble,
the idea once thought good,
and that is why
so many have stood
But time marches on,
and now we are smarter,
we have learned so much,
that it shouldn't be harder.....
To say "good-bye" to these vestiges
of the past, which are so responsible
for excess greenhouse gas
What was once thought convenient
we now know is not,
so you really don't have
to give it much thought
Just stick to the plan
and vote "yes" for the ban
so pedestrians and the environment
will win in the end
I could go on,
but I'm getting tired
about why the drive-thru
should be retired
But I have so much faith that this council
will do the right thing
that I will say no more -
not even one thing.
