Friends,
Solar energy is one of the fastest growing sectors of California's economy, yet three out of four energy customers - including the state's millions of renters - simply can't go solar through the traditional "panels on your roof" model. State lawmakers are considering legislation to change that with community shared solar.
SB 843 would enable community shared renewable energy programs for customers of the state's major utilities: PG&E, SCE and SDG&E. Customers who participate would receive credit on their utility bills for their portion of the clean power generated, much as if those solar panels were located at their own home or business. Community shared solar is the pathway to clean energy that millions of California residents, schools and businesses have been waiting for.
By simply allowing more Californians to participate directly in our growing solar economy, the program would create 12,000 jobs, $7.5 billion in economic activity, and give our budget-constrained state $235 million in sales tax revenues by 2019 - all without requiring any additional public funding.
We need to make our voices heard before the critical Assembly Utility & Commerce Committee hearing on June 25. Tell your lawmakers to pass Senate Bill 843 and help more Californians go solar!
