    please donate books for jail

I teach meditation at the downtown jail in Santa Rosa and noticed that they have horrible trash on their book carts. The program officer o.k.ed me to bring in better books. So if you have anything lying around that you'd like to get rid of, please let me know.
Here are the specs: books have to be clean and not marked up. Paper backs are preferrable, because hard covers are only allowed at the low security jail by the airport. Good magazines are o.k. Please no mysteries or soft porn. If your name or address is in it, tear that page out.
    Thanks, Ella Rozett 874-3397

Re: please donate books for jail, rant, mental heath, 2/24++

i could put together a box of 20-30 books, if you are up to picking them up.
sometimes i am in downtown sebastopol, & could let you know. I am over the top now & pulling out 25 paperbacks is as much as i can do. I have them & would love to donate them to prisons. or the local one. I go to the one by the airport once or twice a year for plants. I will remember when i go next March or november to take a box of hardbacks with me.
I have lots of lst editions that are hardbacks that wouldn't be appropriate except for that jail. I was saving some to sell or re-sell, but I haven't had the time in the last 2 years, so I obviously don't have the time.
[i'm trying to put together boxes of "collectibles' for the Great Find store (previously Buy it Now Store) in Sebastopol, on the edge of west santa rosa, for our horse rescue and youth at risk program. that is taking me long enough.] i work with youth at risk for many reasons, but one is the hope of expanding their vision, giving them job skills, working w. horses who were throw-aways but are now be rehabbed for a better life, will touch on their compassion, and hopefully some combination of these will keep them out of the juvenile non justice system.)
we need to put prevention programs at the top of our list, utilize half-way houses, bracelets, and other options to change our non-justice system, and address mental health early so we don't have 1/3 to 1/2 of prisoners who self medicate on drugs, and end up in prison, because we prioritize no money for mental health for youth and almost as little for adults....this is one of my button issues. as long as i'm ranting on tues 2/24 please all fax & email like crazy to barrage our senators w. emails. since they are on the correct side of health care please email 20 friends who live out of state---know anyone in Massachusetts??--who have senators that are holding up, opposing, and standing w. for profit insurance cos. & hospitals. action MoveOn.org Political Action: Democracy in Action (how many of you remember when hospitals were not-for-profit and they had major auxiliaries to raise funds!) ok. basta. move on is coordinating. thank you Ella for doing the work you do. if i had the $ time or land, i would love to incorporate prisoners, & ex-cons, or re-fund the program that we had in our state. thank you for doing incredible & invaluable work.

where are the russ feingolds, why are the bahy's leaving the system? saying congress is not the best way to accomplish things. we have to knock 1/2 of them out. make them accountable. another reason to avoid big box stores, shop small & local when possible. if one must target gives a chunk away to local schools--in sebastopol & santa rosa there are 4-5 schools in the 5 figure range. the schools receiving the most were in the $17k range. not bad. when you must go big box...
