    Blogging Advice Needed

Can anyone give me some advice about using the internet to promote and market myself as a writer and educator? I have had a published book for five years and need to get more focused with on-line marketing. I do know how to do free search engine submission and when I do the book sales pick up some. I do not know how to tag words. etc. When I first published I paid someone to do on-line promotion and for awhile my book was on sites all over the world. I do not even understand how that happens. I am now writing a new psychology book, "The Biology of Infant Depression; the Root of Human Melancholoy". (not completely happy with this title but it will do for now).
I have had offers to blog for other sites but that is not how I want to spend my energy. I have lots to say. How do I set up my own blog? I have no money to pay to do this, and need to be getting paid by readers. If there is someone capable of assisting me in doing this I would pay you a commission.
For instance; I just went to a Sierra Club retreat/work group. I want to write a blog about the issue of the environmental impact of a consumer-based economy.

    Re: Blogging Advice Needed

    Hi,
There's free blogging software like blogger. But i think you do need a domain name and host - maybe that would cost about $10 a month. many hosts give you a free name if you sign up for hosting. for blogging its pretty cheap. You should also have a website. lots of information on that too, simple templates.

I, too, have written a book and have done lots of research on how to online market. you have to build a presence - like respond to other's blogs, etc. respond to environmental blogs as an example.

go to craigslist.com to find blogging jobs - they don't pay much but you could learn on someone else's dime.

its pretty easy. and fun to build a virtual community. good luck.

    Go to: https://www.blogger.com

There you will find simple directions for building your own blog. There is no expense out of your pocket and no annoying Google ads to contend with, unless of course you would like to install Google Ad Sense. In that case, the ads can generate some added income for you. However, you have no control over ad content; something to keep in mind before installing this feature. Blogger also provides the capability to install PayPal if you actually want to conduct business on your blog. Every thing you need to get started you will find at Blogger.

I was completely techie illiterate when I set up my blog and it was a piece of cake. Blogger is very user friendly. I think you will be happy with their services. Re: Blogging Advice Needed

I'll be teaching a class on blogging and the importance of social media in February.

The cost will be very minimal - at this point - we hope it will simply be a $5 donation to Car Lite. We have room for about 60 people.

We haven't scheduled a date yet. Probably second week of February.

I'll answer questions and explain the concepts in as simple of terms as possible, take questions and be available for follow up questions later by email. I'll explain squidoo pages and economic opportunities and I'll be available by email to help you create your own blog afterwards so you don't have to go it alone.

    Re: Blogging Advice Needed

My recommendation from an integrated marketing/strategy perspective is to narrow down what it is you're looking to achieve. Starting a blog is one thing --there are many free and paid blogging platforms available

It's another thing to actually have hits on your blog and generate revenue from the drive your blog creates. There are more mainstream approaches like SEO which you've mentioned, pay-per-click advertising (to generate revenue streams), social networking sites, etc.

Then there are more strategic approaches like using your pull to drive the site. Many popular blogs are made up of syndicated content, for instance, so allowing relevant blog posts to be featured on other sites will get you more hits with less work (and you can still do what you want).

If you hire someone who knows what they are doing (assuming that your blog content pulls its own weight) you are (almost) guaranteed a considerable return on your investment. They key is finding someone who is specifically an internet marketing expert. The reason being is that an ecommerce specialist who is a marketing expert will understand how to leverage hits to your blog with revenue streams so that one goal –generating readership/hits --becomes the avenue for a number of outcomes, including income.

One other note is about your target market. Given the scope of the titles of your work I imagine that it is geared toward academics, practitioners, students, scientists, etc. The better you understand the needs of your target markets and what compels them, the better you can design & implement a strategy.

All the best --if you want recommendations I have some great ecommerce/internet specialists I contract out to.
