    Election Day Dress Code

    Passing this on...

ELECTION DAY!!! LISTEN UP LISTEN UP!
Please, please, please advise everyone you know that they absolutely can NOT go to the polls wearing
any Obama (or whoever you are voting for) shirts, pins, hats, etc. It is AGAINST THE LAW and will be
grounds to have the polling officials to turn you away. This is considered campaigning and no one
can campaign within 50 feet of the polls. They are banking on us being overly excited and not being
aware of this long standing law that you can bet will be ENFORCED THIS YEAR!!!!!They are betting that if you are turned away, you will not go home and change your clothes and
return to the polls to vote. Please do not wear ANY political gear of any sort to the polls! Please
share this information with as many people as you can.

    Re: Election Day Dress Code

I called the Registrar of Voters about this. They confirmed that you do have to be at least 50 feet of the polls but if you enter with a candidate T-shirt, etc., poll workers are instructed to ask that you turn it inside out and remove any candidate buttons.

BTW, in California you can vote your conscience not your fear. By afternoon you will see that the Democratic candidate will be far ahead of the Republican. Cast a vote for Cynthia McKinney or Ralph Nader to make a statement about the control of the two major corporate parties.

    A correction:

    Campaign Gear and the Polls

Any registered voter who meets his or her state’s requirements to vote has the right to cast a ballot at the polls on Election Day.

It is true that in some states, like Nebraska, Virginia, and New York, wearing campaign gear is not allowed at the polls. But no matter what, your vote cannot be taken away from you. At most, you will have to take off a button or put a jacket over a T-shirt. You will still be allowed to vote. Check with your state’s Secretary of State’s office to learn more.

Political experts are already calling deceptive email rumors to the contrary for what they are — shadowy, harmful voter suppression techniques:

Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia Center for Politics, called the barrage of e-mails “a dirty trick” aimed at suppressing Democratic voters. “It is terribly wrong,” Sabato said. “Tragically, it is all too common. One would hope the people responsible could be caught and prosecuted.”

Since different states have different rules, you should direct any questions to your state’s Secretary of State or county election officials. Election officials in Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and North Carolina have already issued statements reaffirming that wearing campaign gear will not keep anyone from voting.

Don’t let these email rumors keep you from voting or showing your support for Barack.
