Today is the day that we reveal some BIG news: we’ve just released our 10th annual Banking on Climate Change Report Card, and the results are stunning. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, JPMorgan Chase is literally the WORST bank in the WORLD. That’s because Chase has put more money into fossil fuels than any other bank in the world, making climate disaster Chase’s business model.
In the 3 years since the Paris Accord, banks have financed fossil fuels with $1.9 TRILLION. Chase is the #1 banker of fossil fuels, with $196 BILLION in fossil fuel funding between 2016-2018 alone. That’s 29% more than the second worst bank -- Wells Fargo -- during the same period of time.
That means that Chase is literally banking on death and destruction. And what’s even worse is that they’re not alone: the top 4 funders in fossil fuels around the world are based in the U.S.:

Here’s some of what the world could accomplish with that much money: We could put solar panels on EVERY house in the world!
In other words, big banks’ financing of fossil fuels in JUST the last THREE YEARS could have made a massive difference in the fight to stop climate change, but instead, the banks have doubled down on funding climate catastrophe. This is YOUR money they’re using Judith, so tell the banks what you think of their choices!
The latest scientific consensus is that we have just about a decade left to avoid the most dangerous impacts of climate change. We’ve been releasing this report for a decade now, and it’s clearer than ever that these banks are responsible for the climate impacts we’re already experiencing.
It’s time the banks invest in our future, and starting today, we’re putting them on notice.
