Dan Monte for Calif. State Assembly, according to Amy Hunz & others

Volunteer Amy Hunz just sent out the following, advocating for Dan Monte for State Assembly in Sonoma and Marin counties. Dan was at the fun, educational, and well-attended Wacco picnic yesterday. Amy below and Dan himself make some important points. Please note all the progressive persons and groups endorsing him.

    Dear Friends,
We now have less than one month until the election! People are getting their voter information in the mail and actively considering who to vote for, especially in our State Assembly race, which as you know, features two very different Democrats. So in order to reach as many people as possible with Dan’s progressive message during this critical period of time, I have prepared an email below for you to forward to your friends, family and neighbors.

Please take a couple of minutes right now—or in the next 24 hours—to send this email to as many people as you can think of among your personal contacts who live in Marin and Sonoma Counties. Feel free to make edits or just send it as it is.

    Let’s get Dan elected!
    Thanks so much, Amy Humz

    Dear Friends,
Like me, you may be opening your Voter Information Guide and wondering who some of the candidates are. I need to tell you about a very important race that hasn't gotten much press. We have a real choice right now to elect a progressive Democrat who has pledged NOT to take corporate donations to represent us in the California State Assembly. His name is Dan Monte.

    Who is Dan Monte?
Dan Monte is running for State Assemblyto represent Marin and Sonoma counties. He is a longtime social justice activist who is deeply rooted in the community and has been on the frontlines of progressive politics for many decades. There are two candidates in this race, and Dan Monte is the ONLY one who has pledged NOT to accept corporate donations. He is running a people-powered campaign, focused on pushing California rapidly toward 100% renewable energy, strong climate protection policies, ensuring guaranteed healthcare for everyone in our state, getting big money out of politics, supporting quality public education, and other progressive goals supported by the vast majority of people in our district.

You can help us win real progressive representation this November by forwarding this email to your friends, family and neighbors in Marin and Sonoma Counties.

What is the Difference between Dan Monte and Incumbent Marc Levine?
    1) Dan Monte is a progressive Democrat who is not taking donations from corporations or billionaires. Marc Levine has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporate interests, including the fossil fuel industry, Big Pharma, Big Ag, Big Developers, and billionaire charter school advocates.

    2) Dan is committed to achieving guaranteed healthcare for all Californians through a single-payer system. Levine helped kill the bill (SB 562) that would have implemented such a system last year.

    3) Dan supports equal overtime pay for farmworkers. Levine voted against it.

    4) Levine has joined other elected officials widely considered "Democrats in name only" in endorsing a big money Republican to be mayor of Petaluma over the other viable candidate, a Democrat (the very experienced, effective 3-term city council member Teresa Barrett.)

Who Endorses Dan Monte for State Assembly?
Dan is endorsed by a wide range of progressives including:
    > Former U.S. Congresswoman, Lynn Woolsey
    > Mayor David Glass of Petaluma
    > Mayor Peter Lacques of Fairfax
    > Ford Greene, San Anselmo City Councilmember
    > Teresa Barrett, Petaluma City Councilmember
    > Norman Solomon, Co-founder of Roots Action
    > Esther (Essie) Blau, R.N. - former director of Marin Healthcare District
    > Frances Moore Lappé, best-selling author and activist
    > Progressive Democrats of America - California
    > Indivisible Petaluma
    > Our Revolution (North Bay, Marin and West Marin chapters)
    > STAND with Ross Valley School
    > Coalition for Grassroots Progress
    > Healthcare for All - Marin
    > Green Party of Sonoma County & Marin County
    > and many more!

I've been knocking on doors for Dan Monte for the past month. Based on how Dan's "No Corporate Donations, People and Planet First" campaign resonates with almost every voter I speak with I firmly believe we can pull off an electoral upset this November...IF WE CAN REACH ENOUGH PEOPLE! Even with over 150 volunteers working on Dan's campaign we can't come anywhere close to knocking on every door in Marin and much of Sonoma County. Person-to-person email could make a huge difference. Thank you!

How attached is incumbent Marc Levine to continuing to take donations from corporations? A brilliant high school student from Marin recently pointed out the detrimental affect corporate campaign donations have on our democracy, and asked Marc Levine if he would pledge to stop taking them. The question and Levine's response can be seen here: Video: High School Student Asks Marc Levine "Will You Stop Taking Corporate Donations?"

One example of how large campaign donations have affected Levine's votes is in the area of charter school accountability. The ACLU found that more than 20% of charter schools in California have denied access to students with disabilities, those with lower grades, and English learners, despite the fact that state law requires these schools to accept all students. Marc Levine's largest career donor is billionaire charter school advocate, John Scully, who has given at least $200,000 to Levine. So it should not surprise us that Levine voted NO on SB 322, which would have ensured that charter schools do not discriminate in their admission, suspension and expulsion policies, and which would have given students and families their due process. Marc Levine was literally named “Elected Official of the Year” by the California Charter Schools Association, sharing that distinction with a Republican Assemblymember from another district. Video: Marc Levine - Charter School Advocate.

Now is the time for bold progressive leadership to get big money out of politics so that we can rapidly transition to 100% renewable energy, guarantee healthcare for everyone in California, provide quality public education and tuition-free college, increase affordable housing and ensure equality and justice for all. Dan Monte will provide that leadership. Please join me, best-selling author Frances Moore Lappé (video) , former U.S. Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey and many others in electing Dan Monte to represent Marin and Sonoma County in the California State Assembly

Thank you for sharing this! The difference between Dan and Marc is as clear as it gets. This is a contest between a grassroots, working-class, progressive candidate vs. a corporate-backed centrist who is beholden to billionaires and corporations who bankroll his campaign. Dan will actually fight to advance the big solutions we need in our state: guaranteed healthcare for all, tuition-free public college, moving rapidly to 100% renewable energy, and enacting publicly funded elections. But only if we VOTE and get the word out while there is still time! Thank you all for your support.

DAN is THE MAN to represent us, in my opinion. If you have not already voted, please consider voting for him.
